Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Central, State, and Deemed universities?

Central universities are established by Parliament and funded by the central government — examples include DU, JNU, BHU. State universities are established by state legislatures and funded by state governments. Deemed universities are recognised by UGC for their academic quality and are either private or government-run. IITs and NITs are Institutes of National Importance — technically not universities but equivalent in status.
